What does the Italian standard say
about Class 1 certification?

Class 1 is regulated by Italian legislation set out in the Ministerial Decree of 26 June 1984 (combustible materials) and the Ministerial Decree of 6 March 1992 (wood-based materials), which establish the criteria for assessing the fire behaviour of any combustible material and, from 2023, apply primarily to furniture. Class 1 is assigned to materials which, after being treated with a certified fire-retardant paint, demonstrate the highest resistance to flame spread during specific tests. This classification is crucial in all settings where fire safety is a priority, such as schools, hospitals, theatres, shopping centres and public buildings.
